BAN vs ZIM 2013 Live Scorecard - Bangladesh vs
Zimbabwe 1st ODI Live Score of Bangladesh tour of Zimbabwe 2013 on May
3rd, played at Queens Sports Club, Bulawayo.
Having contested a hard-fought tied Test series,
Zimbabwe and Bangladesh turn their focus to the 50-over format with the
first of three ODIs starting here on Friday.
Bangladesh bossed the hosts in the second Test at
Harare to level the series, and will take that spirited performance in
the first match of a low-key series while the much rest of the
cricketing world engages in the razzmatazz IPL or prepares for a Test
series in England starting soon.
With an overall 56-30 record over Zimbabwe and having won six of ten ODIs in Bulawayo, Bangladesh could be considered favorites but Zimbabwe know they can be beaten; in their last series in 2011 they won 3-2.
The hosts will again rely on their captain Brendan Taylor to fire with the bat. Taylor hit twin centuries to set up victory in the first Test at Harare, and will again be expected to shoulder much of the responsibility in the ODIs. He struggled in Zimbabwe’s last ODI series in the West Indies but against a side, which he has scored two 50-over centuries off, Taylor could be looking at a profitable series.
The likes of Vusi Sibanda, Regis Chakabva, Hamilton Masakadza, and Sean Williams will need to deliver too in support of Taylor, if Zimbabwe are too curb Bangladesh’s phalanx of spinners and two young pacers boosted by performances in the Tests.
Robiul Islam topped the list with 15 victims and rookie pace bowler Ziaur Rahman impressed on Test debut in the 143-run victory. Robiul is yet to play an ODI but his strong showing leaves him primed for a debut, while joining him could be rookie batsman Shamsur Rahman. With Shakib Al Hasan making a return to ODIs Bangladesh will have an excellent spinning option to back Abdur Razzak who not too long ago became his country’s only 200-wicket man in the format. Both teams will also use this short series to test out their strength with an eye on this summer’s ICC Champions Trophy in England.
